These are the most popular pet names

Whether cuddling under the covers or at the weekend shopping: No relationship comes without nicknames. Usually you do not even consciously forgive them, but you develop in the course of the relationship. Especially at the beginning you often try a few different nicknames, until at some point one has established. Whether "treasure", "mouse", "angel" or "sweetness" - those who do not use their own creation, can fall back on a wide range of "standard" names. But: Which pet name is actually the right one for the partner? Here comes a little guideline.

The 5 golden rules

  1. Ask yourself: what really fits my partner? Somewhere, the character or the look should be reflected in the name. The sexes also play a role. There are classic girl names like "princess" and male names like "hero".
  2. Animal names are popular, but men do not want to be called "bunnies". That just does not underline their masculinity.
  3. Be creative! It does not always have to be "sweetheart" or "darling". From "Wuschel", "Lieblingsmensch" and "Süßkartoffel", "Bubu", "Chaosbär" and "Starfish" to "Goldstück" or "Honigmäulchen" - individual nicknames show the partner: You are unique!
  4. Basically, the partner should also agree with the pet name. Otherwise bad mood can quickly prevail. If he does not like a nickname, you should stay with the first name.
  5. Foreign-language terms are also creative: "Habibi" is Arabic, for example, and means "my lover".

Pet names found? Then you should talk as a couple times when and where you use the nicknames. Is it a very intimate name that is appropriate at home, but certainly not in the department store? Are the friends allowed to hear about it or should one call the other by their first name? "Will you give me the water, Bubu?" Not everyone is right in the public opinion!

Pet names: Which are the most popular?

The online dating portal "Parship" has determined in a survey, which pet names are the most popular with women and men.
Both men and women like the absolute classic: "Schatz". Women are not particularly keen to be addressed by their partner with animal names like "kittens", men are not "baby" as a pet name.

These are the editorial flops

We had a lively discussion in the ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com editorial department - and really great pet names did not come to mind. We agree: Being addressed by your first name is usually best. If you already use a nickname, then you should invent a very individual name. One who is special. Incidentally, the flops only bubbled out of us. We came to the following no-go ranking.

1. Pussy (yes, there are really men who call their wives that way!)

2. Honey

3rd babe

4th screw

5. Zimtstern

6. Püppi

7. Mousebacks

8. Crock root

9. Pupsi

10. Darling

What is your pet name favorite?

"Honey" is too boring for you? Then maybe you call your partner "Schnucki", "Schnuckelchen" or "Sweetie"? What did he come up with for a pet name for you? Write us your names in the comments!
