The new wrinkle fillers

Some women are bothered by it: the frown line is in the best of moods on the forehead, and the deep furrow between the nose and mouth makes you look ill-tempered and stressed.

Dermatologists promise quick help. For successful treatment, however, you need experienced doctors - and not all methods are suitable for every problem.

Lactic Acid Gel (New Fill)

Lactic acid gel (New Fill) was originally developed for sunken cheeks in Aids patients, as it can fill relatively large areas in a short time. In addition, the gel breaks down again after about two years. Of course, lately it has been used more and more against buried facial expressions. For example, Margarete B. *, 48, nurse from Bonn, had herself padded up in a couple of treatments for the cheeks and mouth. "Especially at the mouth, the injections were very painful," she says looking back. "In the cheek area after a few weeks palpable nodules have formed, which you can see when laughing, but I'm still happy with the result, because it lasts longer than anything I've tasted before."

Tissue hardening as in Margarete B. (so-called granulomas) can occur with all upholstering materials (fillers) - the lactic acid gel happens relatively rarely, and allergic reactions are not yet known. Swelling, redness and itching around the puncture sites occur from time to time. An altered dose should make side effects less likely in the future. However, the method is not suitable for fine wrinkles in the eye and mouth area and for spraying the lips.

Animal & human collagen

Dagmar M. *, 51, stylist from Munich, did not want to take any risks with new fillers and had her nasolabial folds (between nose and mouth) injected with animal collagen. It is derived from bovine skins, is considered to be the best researched filling substance and is also good for crinkle wrinkles over the lips or the steep furrow between the eyebrows. Disadvantage: Collagen does not last long, after about six months, the lines are back. Dagmar M. was still totally satisfied. "After the first treatment, it looked great, it kept me unusually long, it took me a year to re-inject it, and then all of a sudden, I got an allergy, and where the wrinkle was before, the skin was red and bumpy - for almost a year. "

To avoid allergies as much as possible, an American company (CosmoDerm) has bred human collagen from cell cultures. This so-called "human collagen" has been approved in the US since March 2003. If it is according to Dr. C. William Hanke, President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, will soon completely replace bovine collagen everywhere.

hyaluronic acid

In Germany, however, it is still not allowed, and doctors take since the BSE crisis anyway hyaluronic acid (brand name Restylane). It is obtained biotechnologically and is considered to be very compatible. The entrepreneur Dina S. *, 54, from Hamburg, for example, has regularly gone to the doctor for ten years: "First, I sprayed the contours on my upper lip, later the deep wrinkles next to my mouth It's a lot of work and not cheap, but I feel better. "

Unlike collagen, the hyaluronic acid syringe contains no anesthetic. Since the acid is also a little more viscous, the syringes are unpleasant, and it should be applied before a cream that stuns the skin a bit. Especially sensitive is the mouth. Many doctors give there therefore a stunning injection as the dentist. Short-term swelling is possible. For a year, natural hyaluronic acid is sprayed from cockscombs, which is supposed to make the face fresher overall. New connective tissue is even to be formed - but there is still a lack of adequate studies.

Botox

The Botox syringe

Strong facial expressions cause all fillers to break down faster. Therefore, many dermatologists combine the materials with Botox, a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes the facial expression muscles. This effect occurs after four to seven days and lasts about half a year. The puncture sites are sometimes slightly red. It is risky if you get to an untrained doctor. If he misses the muscle, one has a smooth but crooked face for about six months.

Dermalive

For lifelong effect, there are Dermalive, small plastic beads embedded in hyaluronic acid or collagen (brand name Artecoll). Marianne P. *, 39, wanted to use it to model her face shape - her narrow cheeks made her look a little bit haggard. After a few weeks, she felt the first bumps in her skin. A year later, it had become dark blue knots the size of a golf ball. "Because the nodules did not respond to cortisone, I had to cut them out," Dr. Alina Fratila, Dermatologist from Bonn. And that does not work without visible scars. Many doctors therefore generally reject such materials.

Particularly problematic is a mix of materials, since the different fillers can not tolerate each other. But many women do not know what they were injected with earlier. The remedy would be to create a patient passport in which the doctor enters the product name. Such a passport does exist, but it is rarely used.

Russian threads

As a new "lifting" method that can delay a facelift for at least five years, apply the "Russian threads" (Aptos threads), developed by a Moscow dermatologist. Hanging bones should be raised, sad corners of the mouth seem happier. In local anesthesia, several threads are pulled net-like parallel to the skin surface with a needle under the skin. With their tiny barbs they anchor themselves non-slip in the tissue. Like any foreign body, they are wrapped with connective tissue over time, there is more volume, and the lifting effect is there.

The prerequisite for a good result is that the doctor controls the technique, otherwise the facial expressions can slip away. Only after three to five months is the final result visible. Slight swelling and small bruising are initially possible. In the first weeks you have to expect a foreign body feeling. If necessary, the threads can be removed again despite their barbs. However, there is no long-term experience.

How do I find the right doctors?

Go to dermatologists who know the skin best. Insist that you receive a patient pass. At ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com there is a mailing list of dermatologists who offer beauty treatments. A quality guarantee is not.

Can I work again immediately?

It would be best if you had the procedure on Friday. For most fillers is overcorrected, that is, it is a little too much injected. The resulting Hubbel or redness usually disappear after one to two days.

What do the treatments cost?

  • New Fill ca.500Euro
  • collagenab300Euro
  • hyaluronic acidab300Euro
  • Botox ab300Euro
  • Aptos threads ab1000Euro
