The best teacher in the world gets $ 1 million - we're happy with him!

The best teacher in the world is Peter Tabichi. The 36-year-old is math and physics teacher in rural Kenya and has won the "Gobal Teacher Prize 2019"? and a million dollars.

What makes this teacher so special?

Tabichi is committed to his students with heart and soul, and he believes in them. He gives 80 percent of his meager salary to the children of Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School at Pwani Village, Nakuru, where he teaches? so that they can afford books and uniforms. Most children are very poor, many are orphans or half orphans. Sometimes he also helps out with breakfast.

Tabichi awakens the ambition of his students and wants to make the natural sciences popular throughout Africa. In his acceptance speech in Dubai, he emphasized the potential of African youth.

Africa will bring together scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs whose names are becoming famous in every corner of the world. And the girls will be a big part of it.

For this purpose he uses Peter Tabichi every day anew. He tries to convince the parents in the village about the importance of education. He visits families whose children threaten to leave school. For parents who want to marry their daughters early, he convinces them that they better go to school for a while.

The equipment of his school is miserable - but that does not hinder Tabichi

There are up to 80 pupils in Tabichi's classes, there are only a few books. Because there is often no Wi-Fi and only one computer at the school, he makes long journeys to the Internet café to download lesson materials for them.

Despite the adverse conditions, his students have been successful in national and international competitions, including a prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK. The jury also underscored Tabichi's merit that many more students have gone to college and university since becoming a teacher at his school.

What is this price?

Initiator and founder of the million-dollar teacher award is the entrepreneur Sunny Varkey. The Indian earned his money, among other things, with real estate, but he also runs more than 130 schools worldwide. The prize was awarded to teachers from 179 countries.
