"Star Wars": Big Mourning for Chewbacca Performer Peter Mayhew (? 74)

The "Star Wars" community mourns for one of their favorites. Peter Mayhew died at the age of 74, as his family announced on Thursday. The native Briton played Chewbacca, the huge, shaggy sidekick of Han Solo in several Star Wars films. His former co-stars, including Han solo mime Harrison Ford (76), remember touching words to Mayhew.

"His soul was in this figure"

Ford told Entertainment Weekly about his colleague: "Peter Mayhew was a friendly and gentle man of great dignity and noble character, and he gave Chewbacca these aspects of his own personality as well as his wit and grace for over 30 years Friends and I loved him, his soul was in this character, and he was very pleased with the Star Wars audience. " Chewbacca has been instrumental in making the films they made together so successful, Ford said. "I and millions of others will never forget Peter and what he has given us."

"Star Wars" inventor George Lucas (74) stated in a statement: "Peter was a wonderful man, he was the closest human to a Wookiee: big heart, gentle nature ... and I always learned him He was a good friend and I am sad about his death. "

"A legend with incomparable class"

Mark Hamill (67), aka Luke Skywalker, commented on Twitter: "He was the most gentle among the giants, a tall man with an even bigger heart who always made me smile and a loyal friend whom I loved very much I am grateful for the memories we have shared and I am a better person since I knew him Thank you, Pete ".
