The 23-year-old Victoria Graham shines in the photos of her Instagram channel, as a newly appointed beauty queen just can radiate. So she represents the small province Frostburg in the US state of Maryland. It all sounds very ordinary. But it is not!

Victoria can no longer hear the phrase "You do not look sick"

The beauty queen suffers from a very rare congenital disorder in the connective tissue, the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. The illness is so severe that she had to endure over ten spinal operations since 2014. Since then, a 63-centimeter scar graces her back.

But she can not be stopped by the pain and tortures she has to endure. She fights against it and shows openly her path of illness on Instagram under the hashtag #ButYouDontLookSick. After all, nobody ever sees her seriously ill.

Victoria does not want to hide, hide something or even retouch. Your scars should all see. She is with them, after all, they are part of their lives.

Between glamor and sickbed

The 23-year-old wants to pay attention to the fact that not everything is as it seems at first glance. So she founded The Zebra Network, an organization that supports other people with the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
