Slimming Show: The Biggest Loser

When Enrico, Sandrine, Jeanette and the others set in motion, double-buzz and lifebuoys are battling against each other. The camera zooms on sprawling bosoms and luscious thighs. And the heavily overweight candidates (weighing 1,800 kilos altogether) tell us why they want to slim down with ProSieben.

The candidates of "The Biggest Loser"

For nine months, they will live on a property advertised as a "Mediterranean-style hacienda" near Budapest, eat little and sweat a lot. The concept of the diet show comes - of course - from the USA, the mother country of the overweight. Those who lose the most may proudly call themselves "The Biggest Loser" and win 100,000 euros.

In order to spice up the diet torments, the candidates compete against each other in teamsGuided by two personal trainers who could never afford Enrico, Sandrine and Jeanette alone. First exciting weekend: The teams have to pull a truck. We weigh at the end of each week. The team, which has lost less weight overall, must nominate a team member and send home.

Moderator Katarina Witt

Appearance Katarina Witt: Legs apart she is in the nomination room, strictly styled with boots and vest. And those who thought that Heidi Klum had reached the abyss of moderation art are taught otherwise. Kati Witt dosed her dramatic breaks even more unpredictable than the good Heidi. And acts as a moderator about as out of place as her overweight candidate in a figure skating costume.

To run away are also the comments from the off. The 190-kilo man Heiko is dubbed a "pound-necked" and the exuberant Mariola a "mighty actress," paired with platitudes such as "food is his greatest passion." The utility of the shipment? Equals zero. A few flimsy indications that healthy eating and lots of exercise are important. But who flies out, must fight alone against his kilos. Without a personal trainer and a Mediterranean hacienda.

ProSieben throws in "The Biggest Loser" all the ingredients of a successful reality show in the pan: personal fate strikes, weird types, Rumgezicke, delicate Flirtversuche, Nevertheless, even the first episode is tough as a shoe sole. Because there are more exciting things than watching other people doing sports.

Why are the candidates doing this? No idea. Fortunately, as a spectator you have the choice. And can easily switch.

"The Biggest Loser" will air on Thursday, January 8, at 8:15 pm on ProSieben.
