Sebastian Fitzek: Everything worth knowing about the thriller star

Sebastian Fitzek (47) is considered one of the most successful thriller authors in Germany. For many of his works, readers need strong nerves: psychopaths known as "The Soulbreaker", child corpses with missing eyes that the "eye collector" had in their clutches, or death lotteries are at the center of some of his books. They became all bestsellers. The author had initially taken a completely different approach.

From radio to bestselling author

Sebastian Fitzek was born in 1971 in Berlin. After a radio traineeship and a law degree, the lawyer worked for several years as chief editor and program director at the radio. In 2000 he started writing his debut "The Therapy" (2006). The book became a surprise hit. And all the thrillers that followed, found a large fanbase.

Cruel ideas from everyday life

Fitzek, meanwhile a father of three, is inspired by everyday situations, among other things. The idea for "therapy" came to him, "while I waited in a completely overcrowded waiting room of a doctor for my girlfriend finally comes back from the treatment," says Fitzek on his website. "When that was still not the case after half an hour, my thriller brain began to wonder," What if everyone told you she did not go in? "When the receptionist and doctor said today they still have my girlfriend If the other waiting patients also shook their heads, what logical reason could it be that they never turn up again? "

Fitzek in TV and in the cinema

When the screen adaptation of his bestseller "Das Joshua-Profil" was broadcast on TV in the spring, Sebastian Fitzek himself was also seen: At the beginning of the film he mimics a bookseller who holds a little-visited reading for the title hero. And also in the beginning of October launched cinema adaptation of "cut off" he has, just like co-author Michael Tsokos (51), a small appearance. He plays a lawyer and has only one sentence to say. "That's a good thing," he assured in an interview with spot on news.

Other Fitzek films follow: In Sat.1, a film will be aired in autumn after a book by him: "Amokspiel," said the author: "It is about a hostage drama in a radio station." In running a psychopath calls indiscriminately people. If they report on the phone with a certain slogan, a hostage will be released, if not, one will be shot. " Also in the fall is on RTL "Passenger 23": "It's about a father whose wife and child disappear on a cruise ship without a trace." When he gets an indication after years what could have happened to his loved ones, he goes to the mystery after their disappearance. "

The new book

While the film adaptations of his works have so far elicited mixed feelings from the fans, the joy of the next book by Fitzek followers is likely to continue. From October 24th, "Inmate" will have his new thriller: One year after little Max disappears, his father decides to come as close as possible to the culprit. In order to find out what happened to Max, he himself becomes an inmate in the high-security wing of psychiatry.
