Science of Sleep

Everything only dreamed? Stéphane (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Stéphanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg)

Stéphane (grandiose and adorable: Gael Garcia Bernal) walks between dream and reality. In the real world he is a shy, young man, in his dreams he mutates into a hero - and performs as a rock star, television presenter or superman. Stéphane's overflowing fantasy catapults him time and again into exciting new dream scenarios. Unfortunately, his creativity is rarely in demand in real life. Hoping to publish the comic book he designed, he takes on a job in a Paris agency. But the turns out to be a copy shop and Stéphane's work routine as gray and boring.

Tension comes to his life, as Stéphane met his neighbor Stéphanie (pretty brittle: Charlotte Gainsbourg). Intrigued by her, he invents magical things to win over Stéphanie. Everything could be so nice. But where Stéphane could otherwise jump confidently between dream and reality, the worlds suddenly merge more and more. Does Stéphane end up figuring everything out and Stéphanie does not really reciprocate his feelings?

"Science of Sleep - Dreaming Guide" is a wonderfully crazy love comedy, in which director Michel Gondry ("Forget me not") enchants viewers with imaginative, poetic imagery. His film is full of original ideas that have not been realized with great technique, but how handmade, which gives "Science of Sleep" additional charm. Surreal, weird, beautiful.
