Sarah Hyland: You had to have a kidney transplanted for the second time

The "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland had another kidney transplant that nobody knew about. As the actress herself stated in an interview, her body had rejected a first transplanted kidney. This was already used in 2012, the first problems then emerged again from autumn 2016 on. "We did all the tests and tried all the treatments to save the kidney," she told the magazine "SELF".

However, her doctor had said that her new kidney was like a "burning house" and that the decay was already too advanced. She had even been dependent on a dialysis machine for some time, but in May 2017 it was time. The new but broken kidney was removed and her brother Ian Hyland (23) donated her one of his kidneys. Since then she is almost free of complaints.

The fact that the first donor kidney had been from her father had brought her into internal conflict. "I was very depressed," Hyland said, "if a family member gives you a second chance to live and it does not work, then it feels like it's your fault." She even thought of suicide before transplanting her brother's kidney, because she did not want to fail a second time.
