Prince Charles: He will not do that as a king anymore

Prince Charles (69) knows what he is not allowed to do as a king: to interfere in politics. Now the heir apparent has made it clear that he does not intend to do that either. In a big BBC documentary on the occasion of his 70th birthday next week, the son of Queen Elizabeth II (92) has spoken, according to "Mail Online" about his controversial lobbying.

Prince Charles said that as a king he would refrain from advocating environmental or architectural projects: "I'm not so stupid." For the first time, and for the last time, according to the report, he talks about the subject: He knows that being a monarch is different. "That's why, of course, I completely understand how that works."

Relief after the accession?

In the past he has tried to ensure, Prince Charles is further quoted, "that all I have done is not party political, but I think it is important to remember that there is room for only one monarch for two". He is the heir to the throne, and adds, "But the idea that I will continue to do so if I have to follow, is total nonsense, because the two situations are completely different." The 69-year-old also does not want to talk about "interfering": "I mean, I always thought it was motivating."

The man behind the documentary, director John Bridcut, stated, "Mail Online", Charles' wife Camilla (71) thinks the burden of being the next monarch "does not weigh heavily on his shoulders because he's been his whole life knew it would happen ". And Bridcut added, "In fact, he told me he might be more relieved to step back from the big job he's taken as Prince of Wales."
