Niki Lauda: Formula 1 legend allowed to leave the hospital

Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda (69) left the hospital about two and a half months after his lung transplant. This was announced by the General Hospital (AKH) Vienna on its homepage.

Lauda is "in good general condition", but now has to undergo "intensive, several weeks of rehabilitation," the hospital continues. We wish the "69-year-old for a continued good course." Lauda will continue to be supported on his way "by the lung transplantation team of the AKH Vienna and the MedUni Vienna".

His life was hanging by a thread

Lauda was diagnosed with pneumonia in mid-July. After his condition did not improve by bed rest, it was clear that the former Formula 1 driver needed a new lung. When the 69-year-old was operated on 2 August, not only motorsport world worried about him.
