Modern Family: A central figure will die in the tenth season

The tenth season of the popular US sitcom "Modern Family" will see a big change. As "Entertainment Weekly" reports, in the first half of the upcoming season, one of the main characters will leave the series - and die!

Series co-creator Christopher Lloyd (58) finds it important to pick up the subject of death in a sitcom as well. "We're taking care of the slightly larger events in life this season, and we're dealing with death as well, a topic that every family has a fight with, but it's not easy to implement on TV, because it's a tough one. On the other hand, it would be strange if a family did not deal with it, "he told Entertainment Weekly.

Is it Jay Pritchett?

Ed O'Neill (72), who plays the role of Jay Pritchett since the first season alongside Sofia Vergara (46, "Miss Bodyguard"), is by far the oldest in the series. Whether it would actually hit him, Lloyd did not want to reveal. He only stated that it was an "important character" and death was a very emotional affair that would drag on over several episodes.

The tenth season "Modern Family" starts on September 26, 2018 at the US station ABC. When it is broadcast in Germany is not yet clear. In this country, the sitcom is currently running, among others, the RTL station NOW US.
