Miracle product protein?

What's wrong with the alleged power? We reviewed the three main arguments of the protein advocates

1. Statement: We eat too little protein.

That's not true. Those who eat a varied diet get enough protein - even the so-called essential amino acids, which the body can not produce itself. A shortage threatens only if animal foods (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products) are completely deleted from the diet.

2. Statement: protein boosts the metabolism; the more we eat, the slimmer we become.

Yes and no. The truth is: About 30 percent of the calories that are in proteins are used up right away for their recovery. This is much more than with fat and carbohydrates, so actually makes protein-rich food is not so easy fat. It is more saturated than carbohydrates and does not raise blood sugar levels that much. This prevents food cravings. But: If you eat more in the long run than it consumes - whether fat, carbohydrates or protein - is increasing. Because too much protein is converted into fat.

3. Assertion: You get muscle from protein, a bobble from carbohydrates.

No. It is a naive notion that the steak goes straight into the muscles and the sandwich lays on the waist. The fact is: All three nutrient groups (protein, fat, carbohydrates) can be used as needed to generate energy, to build up body cells or to create fat deposits. Performance athletes who eat a lot of protein build better muscle. And with a diet can be braked by sufficient protein muscle breakdown. This is important because muscles burn a lot of calories and thus help you lose weight.

Protein is not a super-slimming product, but it helps to lose weight. So while dieting better do not give up meat, fish or dairy products.
