Mesut Özil: That's what he says after the World Cup

In the Football World Cup, the round of 16, the German national team are meanwhile long back home. After the break in the preliminary round Mesut Özil (29) has now reported via Instagram.

In English, Özil wrote about a picture that left him downcast: "Having to leave the World Cup after the group stage is so painful, we just were not good enough, it will take me some time to process it."

The team had previously sincerely apologized for the catastrophic performance in Russia on the official Instagram page of the DFB team. "We are sorry that we did not play as World Champions, so we are deservedly eliminated, as bitter as it is," is read there.
