Make ketchup yourself - as a last minute gift!

That's what you need for the ketchup:

- 500 g red pepper

- 1.5 kg of ripe tomatoes (or canned tomatoes)

- 1 red chili, finely chopped

- 1 large vegetable onion

- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced

- 1 piece of ginger (only who likes!)

- 1/4 l mild vinegar

- 150 g of brown sugar

- 1/2 Tl. Ground cloves

- 1/2 Tl. Ground allspice

- 1-2 Tl. Curry powder

- 1-2 Tl. Paprika powder, sweet

- Salt pepper

Make ketchup yourself: That's how it works!

Dice the pepper, carefully removing all white spots. Dice the tomatoes and onions and mix with the chili strips, the garlic and the chopped ginger. Add the peppers and puree everything with the blender.

Add vinegar and spices and cook over medium heat until the vegetables are really soft. Allow to cool a little and then purée everything well again.

Add the sugar and simmer on low heat until the ketchup has the desired consistency.

Put in hot rinsed bottles, let cool.

Tip: Depending on which type of vinegar you use, the 250 ml can lead to a rather sour result. If this is the case, just add brown sugar until the desired sweetness is achieved. Do not worry about the calories: The industrially produced colleagues have easily 3 times! :-)

PS: In order to make the ketchup suitable for a gift, a few little things are enough: A nice label that hangs on the ribbon, or - as with me - was stuck to the bottle with masking tape. In addition, chips made of porcelain and French metal pickles - and you have a wonderfully personalized homemade gift.
