Loved: ARD puts an end to "Forbidden Love"

After exactly 4664 episodes is now supposed to be final, out, end: On Friday, the 26th of June at 18:50 clock the last episode "Forbidden love" in the ARD flicker across the screen. This reports the series itself via their Twitter account. The love between the ARD and its former show Soap has cooled down so far, that they now finally separates. The reason: steadily falling viewer numbers.

Volker Herres, program director of the ARD: "The 'Forbidden Love' has written a piece of TV history by advocating tolerance of love and acceptance of same-sex partnership early on." Over the past two decades, a lot has changed in society, once taboos were questioned and are no longer in many places today so we do not want to mourn the end of the series, but look back on 20 successful years full of excitement and emotions. "

Unfortunately, there are very sad news:

After the Aus was already in the last year shortly before, there was last hope for the fans. One made the daily soap (the "daily") with a concept change a weekly soap that was broadcast weekly on Fridays. But the success did not come.

Even then, there was a lot of protest from "VL" fans, which was joined by ChroniquesDuVasteMonde editor Nikola Haaks:

"Forbidden Love" puts an end!

I have just signed a petition. Nothing political, nothing against animal transport. It's about a serious break that will take place in my life. And in the lives of many other people. A dramatic, incomprehensible and above all unnecessary cut: The ARD wants to sell the daily soap "Forbidden Love" at the end of the year. It goes, of course, to the odds.

For a long time I thought I belonged to a small, sad minority, whose favorite series is not American "Game of Thrones" or "Homeland", but a German soap opera around the noble Lahnsteins at Königsbrunn Castle near Cologne. Apart from my friends Matthias and Silke, who never answer the phone between 6 and 6:45 pm, I did not know anyone who was crazy about "VL". My US-watching, culturally-minded colleagues smile only mildly, my mother considers the whole thing to be the height of flatness. But after the "SZ" -feuilleton Elke Heidenreich has given almost a whole page for their bewilderment over the impossible decision of the ARD, one can sign petitions against the dismissal of the series in the net and there is also an active Facebook group ("Rettet VL! "), I am not ashamed a second more.

"Forbidden Love" is my brain-vacuum cleaner

Yes, let's save VL! This piece of television history that has not only been with me for nearly 20 years, but has never gone before: Ansgar, the hamster-baked Fiesling, Charlie, the well-to-do middle-aged girl; the Count, the Countess, the unspeakable number of (partly lost) children, who suddenly appear to confuse the entire family structure including inheritance. And in the opposite, the "normal people", in and out of the basement pubs such as the "No Limits" on and off. It is about - except for love between people who should rather keep their fingers off each other - to artificial insemination, single parents, driver escapes, integration, unemployment, bankruptcy, dementia, tablet addiction - nothing that is not dealt with here.

All this offers the RTL series "Good times, bad times" too? No! Not so charming, not so entertaining. Not so public, I would have said until recently. Because that was for me so far for level. For better scripts, more attention to detail. But that was probably yesterday. The program director of the ARD, Volker Herres, 1.22 million viewers are not enough. Instead, he wants a stunned quiz duel on the air. How many? I dont know. I will not look it either.

"Forbidden Love" is my brain-vacuum cleaner. My carefree niche. My after-work meditation. When I know that I have the opportunity to sit in front of the TV at 6 pm, I get a pleasant anticipation. The series is like an old, familiar acquaintance: even if you do not keep talking, you're back in the movie right away. No matter if in between a few protagonists were exchanged or completely new story lines were opened: This jerks everything up very quickly. For almost 20 years. Damn it!
