Looking for new parents for boys with Down syndrome? via Facebook

"In Hamburg, a small boy was born these days who has Down syndrome. "That's how Raphael Brinkert's Facebook post began: The Hamburger Werber campaigned for a baby that only saw the light of day a few days ago, but was supposedly unwilling by his parents to adopt it, according to Brinkert released after being diagnosed with Down syndrome.

Brinkert himself is the father of a boy with trisomy 21 and has been involved for some time with the parent association KIDS Hamburg e.V., which campaigns for people with Down syndrome.

Via Facebook in search of adoptive parents

Brinkert wanted to help the newborn and searched on Facebook "urgently" for adoptive parents - without a home would the baby in a home for the disabled: "The consequence is that he most likely will not receive the inclusive support, which gives him an independent and self-determined life, inclusive Make life possible ".

About the everyday life with his own son, Brinkert wrote: "We ourselves have a healthy boy with DS and frankly, his sisters often do more to us than he."

Then he expressed the hope: "Maybe there are parents or non-parents who can read this text and imagine adoption."

The post was shared over 5000 times within 72 hours. Brinkert is happy: "The internet is sometimes great!"

Parents have not yet consented in adoption

In fact, according to the Hamburg Social Welfare Office, several hundred people have come forward who are interested in adopting the boy. However, according to a spokesman for the Hamburger Abendblatt, the child is not yet released for adoption. "Both parents have not yet consented to the adoption," said the spokesman.

Brinkert acted without agreement

According to Abendblatt, the parents had first asked only for support with the authority. In addition, an adoption at such an early stage is legally not possible. First of all, they want to try to find a solution in which the child can stay with their parents.

Raphael Brinkert had made his call without consultation, which the authority sees quite critical - also because of the protection of privacy. There were also many comments in which the boy's parents were prematurely sentenced.

Of course, one is also happy about the sympathy, and that this important topic has received such a broad public.

Therefore, the social authority wants to inform in the near future on the topic of adoption and children with disabilities - also on the Facebook page:

Adoptions - a topic that is always discussed controversially. Even now again. If you are seriously interested: We ...
