Lay books yourself

In just a few steps, a typed manuscript can become a hardcover book. The company Books on Demand offers the technical and organizational requirements. And this is how it works: You write a manuscript with a popular word processor. Then you have three options: Either you do everything yourself, so take care of the preparation of the print template, develop the book cover and determine the page format. Or you can use the Books on Demand layout team for this purpose. If you're looking for something very professional, you can get personal advice from experienced editors and manufacturers who work with Books on Demand.

It does not matter which variant you choose: For Books on Demand, the digital data is used to create the so-called "Master", the print template from which the book is made. Practical: You do not have to order a whole edition right away. Because only when a customer wants the book, it is also produced. The cost of a book of its own is therefore manageable: At the base price of 180 euros for a paperback book, 45 cents per page are added for the production of the master. If the book is printed, a book page costs another 2 cents. For an ISDN number you pay about 60 euros extra. Advantage: The book can also be ordered internationally.

As a publisher, however, one does not become rich in this way: At a selling price of 12 euros for a 180-page book, the author earns about 1.56 euros per copy. There is no need to search for a suitable publisher and there is no one to dictate to the book - but you have to take care of advertising and sales yourself.
