© Thomas Neckermann

You need for a pair of baby shoes:

  • soft, thin wool (eg "Evento" by Lana Grossa (160 m / 50 g), 50 g in color pebbles No. 45 and 50 g in color cyclam No. 35 or simply colored wool remnants in given run length)
  • 1 pair of knitting needles, size 4
  • 1 thick darning needle with a big needle eye
  • 1 piece medium strength cardboard
  • 1 sharp pair of scissors

That's how it's done:

Pattern: frill on the right (outward right, reverse right).

Step 1 A shoe is started at the sole. Cast on 40 stitches, knit in the basic pattern in one color.

step 2 Cast off 8 stitches on both sides in 5 cm total height. Continue working in 9.5 cm total height for the border with the second color.

step 3 Bind off all stitches in 12 cm total height. Fold, close the front and sole seams. Tighten the front opening with a thread and sew the thread.

Step 4 For each pompon cut out two circular surfaces of 3 cm diameter from the cardboard, punch a hole in the middle; Put cardboard rings on top of each other. Thread long wool thread into the darning needle, wrap wool evenly around the rings - the denser, the fuller the pompon will be. Now cut the wool on the outer edge of the cardboard rings. Bend the two cardboard rings slightly apart, wrap wool rope in between several times with a wool thread and knot together. Remove the cardboard discs, shape the pompon with the scissors and sew with a few stitches by hand on the front seam of the shoe.

duration: about 4 hours
