Joker: Impressive horror trip with Joaquin Phoenix

The birth of Batman's greatest adversary, the Joker, has already been staged in a variety of ways. Sometimes a gangster of the brand Jack Nicholson falls into a steaming chemical. Sometimes the psychopath emerges out of the blue and, like Heath Ledger, always tells other (false) stories of his manic origin - and remains a mystery. The new trailer for "Joker", in which Joaquin Phoenix (44) slips into the crazy title role, paints another picture. One that will probably be as human as in any movie before.

It will not be the same tomorrow that the bluff Arthur Fleck becomes the world-famous clown-monster. Apparently for years it's rumbling and bubbling in it, a skinny mama's boy, a whipping boy of society, a loser. He is not portrayed as a culprit for much of the approximately two and a half minutes long clip - but as a victim. "My mother always tells me to smile and put on a happy face, she told me that I was destined to bring laughter and joy to the world," Phoenix's voice begins to say.

Joy and sorrow

Even on a halfway successful date, he seems to be in a scene of the trailer. But literally every second, the madness begins to rise around him (and in him), his increasingly scary clown outfit reflects his psyche. At the end of the video, it becomes clear that many more people are wearing clown masks and make-up, and that there are anarchic uprisings. Even actor Robert De Niro (75) can be seen briefly in a setting, which is to be involved as a TV presenter significantly to Fleck's transformation into a supervillain.

The fans are excited

Already it is clear how well this dark mix of human abyss and tragedy by director Todd Phillips (48, "Hangover") arrives at the audience. Within a very short time, the trailer would be viewed half a million times, and the associated commentary will be overflowing with anticipation and praise for leading actor Phoenix. And even the little word Oscar appears again and again in the lyrics - for which Phoenix was so far "only" nominated three times.

Whether film and performers will do justice to these juicy lobes, learn German moviegoers and comic fans later this year. From 17 October, Joaquin Phoenix 'journey down to madness can be admired.
