Job Search 50+: "I feel discriminated"

What would your life plan look like if you could look back at it in retrospect? Caroline, a mother of two, is 53 years old and regrets that she did not take up a permanent position for the children in the 1990s. Young women today would advise them to stay in and be pregnant if necessary!

For them, the train has left, they will probably have to continue to work freely. Her age seems to be a knockout criterion, so far she has not even been invited to a conversation even though her qualifications are right.

For the first time, Family Unplugged has interviewed a mother who can tell in retrospect what it means to reconcile work and family balance by putting the woman back.

Caroline never gave up her job because she continued to work as a freelancer - but on a permanent job. The consequences are now noticeable, with more than 15 years delay. Because since the children are relatively independent, Caroline would like to work again in a team and applies, so far without success. Despite high qualifications and continuous training, she is not even invited to a conversation.



In the 90s, she did not worry about the future. When she was offered a permanent position, she had just become pregnant and considered it a matter of fairness to reject the contract. She was able to work freely for the same agency and accepted assignments until shortly before birth. Back in 1998, there were no nurseries, from the 8th month the children were with a childminder. Caroline worked full time four days a week, until 6pm. The money she earned paid more or less for the care, but Caroline wanted to stay in the job so as not to lose the connection.

In the meantime, Caroline feels the same pressure on men when they reach a certain age. In the advertising industry to exceed the 60, is actually only possible if you have your own agency or sell successfully and could retire.
