Frauke G. asks: "I am an apprentice and looking for a part-time job, but there is absolutely nothing suitable for me, what can I do?"

"I'm in a dilemma, I'm a Ph.D. historian and I got two children at a relatively large distance, the big one is now 16 years old, the little one is 5 years old.

This means that I have not worked for a very long time, and now comes the part-time aspect added: I just want to be home when the daycare is over, so at 13 clock.

But all the jobs offered to me mock my studiesmy diligence, my expertise. I've been working on my PhD for five years, and now I'm supposed to be at the reception. I turn to the idea that there are no other possibilities.

What do you advise me? "

Frauke G. from Cologne

Dear Mrs. G.,

"Phew, you really need the kölsche serenity: et kütt how et kütt! Because it is really hard to find something equivalent to a Geschichtsspromotion.

To be honest (and be brave now!): I believe that almost all the part time jobs you start will seem like a prelude to you, a prelude, a cardboard style, a ridiculousness.

Try to educate yourself with a combination of group and history. Storytelling is the big buzzword with which companies are currently trying to set themselves apart through history-rich PR and to position them in competition. If you do not have any ethical arrogance ("I do not work for a company and help make it even more profitable !?), it could be a link between your studies and the world of work. (Here you can learn more about it: //t3n.de/news/storytelling-unternehmen-561513/).

If you do not want to work in the corporate world, you could also try to become self-employed as a biographer. You just have to put your scientific code back a bit (very). People who want to review their life and have this written down, are usually not interested in a relativized, neutral, well-grounded history. But there are also individual truths, and to mine them can also be meaningful.

Many Greetings,

Katrin Wilkens, i.do.
