Ben Thomas (Will Smith) has a secret. The once successful engineer lives in a dingy motel, eats stale fast food, and does not answer the phone when his brother calls. He is a broken man, plagued by terrible memories.

Radiantly beautiful: Rosario Dawson

His only goal: He wants to help seven people. Strangers whose lives he turns completely upside down. Disguised as a tax investigator, Ben visits blind pianist Ezra, a terminally ill ice hockey coach, a young mother abused by her boyfriend. And give them priceless gifts: eyesight, his beach house, his kidney.

Also the heart sick Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson) is on Ben's list. But the fragile woman with the Danish mastiff upsets Ben's plan. She takes him back to the sunny side of life. He falls in love - and makes a momentous decision to save Emily.

No, a typical Will Smith movie is not Seven Life. That's what the smart actor says himself. No weapons, hardly any gags, no superpowers. But at the age of 40 you can dare to take the plunge. He was assisted by Italian director Gabriele Muccino, who already brought Will's serious side to light in "The Quest for Happiness".

Dream Couple: Will Smith and Rosario Dawson

Supposedly he had to pull himself together on the set, so as not to fool around too much. As a joker, Will Smith is definitely worth seeing. But his game with the beautiful Rosario Dawson works. And the tearful love story goes to the heart.

"Seven Life" is also a film about life and death, about guilt and forgiveness, about good and evil people. And all that is a bit too much of a good thing. In short flashbacks is becoming gradually clear why the desperate Ben wants to do penance. But the naivety with which he rises to the moral apostle and only helps those people who have earned it in his opinion, is exhausting. The really shocking end does not help either: "Seven Life" is a beautiful love story, but a weak drama.
