"I need stronger nerves"

The starting point

Entirely unnerved: Melanie Zimmermann, 32, hairdresser, mother and wife from Fulda

Melanie's day is pretty busy: In the morning she runs her own hair salon, together with her husband. Everyone should feel comfortable here, both customers and employees. Harmony is important to Melanie. She feels when customers tell. Problems of the employees are close to her. However, she finds it difficult to be the boss, to prioritize employees. If customers want additional treatments on full days, they can say bad no. Outwardly friendly, she is getting tense inside. The afternoon belongs to her son, but also to the household. There is not much patience left for the son. If he does not get dressed or just does not want to hear, it quickly gets loud and explodes. In the evening, Melanie feels drained. She freezes, is physically tense, would like to crawl within herself. Melanie then just wants more serenity and stronger nerves in job and personal life, so that their day does not cost so much strength.

Melanie copes with a fourfold burden: She is a mother, wife, independent hairdresser and does the housework. Her irritable mood shows: The batteries are empty. She spends too much energy on others. Three things can prevent this: 1. Melanie has to isolate herself against energy robbers. Women like her are always approachable, listening and taking in every conversation. That's power consuming. I advise Melanie to demarcate herself. It does not always have to respond to others. If her conflict or illness stories become too much, she can steer the conversation to enjoyable. Second She should develop a healthy selfishness. This means that Melanie throws down the claims on herself - The beds do not have to be made every day and a bio-frozen pizza is okay. This creates room for breaks and Melanie urgently needs them. 3. Melanie is allowed to load only portable. For this she urgently has to practice saying no. Smiling refuse is not rude.

The TCM expert: Dr. med. Dieter Schmidt, President of the German Association for Korean Hand Acupuncture, Glücksburg

According to Chinese teachings, Melanie is a cardiac type of person. This means she is very sociable and likes to do many things at once. The downside: Melanie takes over quickly and consumes herself. Another reason for Melanie's irritability is her "lack of Xue". Xue is circulating fluid in the body, including blood or lymph. Those who do not have enough Xue are quickly exhausted, hectic and slightly over-tempered. I therefore recommend Melanie as part of a Chinese total therapy to an energy-strengthening decoction (decoction) from herbs such as Chinese angelica, lovage and the root of the white peony. To stronger nerves also leads a massage of the center lines of the palm. And the new do-it-yourself hand acupressure with "Zen rings" *. The acupressure rings are rhythmically rolled over individual fingers. This stimulates numerous acupressure points. Five to three times a day for five minutes, especially over thumb and small finger stripes, is ideal. Your energy flow will gradually improve.

The Nutritionist: Barbara Gassert, Diplom-Biologin, Munich (www.barbaragassert.de)

"Cravings for sweets" came to mind when analyzing Melanie's nutritional protocol, which took her four weeks. According to Far Eastern dietetics, this is a sign of lack of energy. Qi deficiency can occur despite a balanced diet. When too many refrigerated foods are eaten. Melanie's coffee, citrus and dairy products. All foods have a thermal effect on the body that does not depend on its actual temperature. Even hot drinks such as coffee can cool down, weaken digestion and energy. Therefore, I advise Melanie to use the warming effect of cinnamon and cardamom and to neutralize the cooling effect of their coffee by adding these spices. In addition, ginger tea can support this internal warming. For breakfast I recommend Melanie cooked cereal with dried fruit and nuts. In addition, she should eat many legumes as a vegetarian to meet their protein needs. Proteins are important for good nerves.

... and that's what it did

After a week I was amazed at how well the experts were about my strengths and weaknesses and how much I found myself in their analyzes. New to me was the thought, my thin nervous costume might be due to too much activity. But many things that I suspected, I am now aware. I try not to say yes so fast and to refuel in between. Is that still hard for me? but every now and then it works quite well. Keeping a nutritional record, that is, writing down exactly what I ate and drank when was exhausting, but made it clear: I ate a lot of sweets in the car. Not anymore. Now I feed myself more consciously and try to drink less than four cups of coffee a day. I now replace still water with 1 to 2 liters of warm ginger water. The heat is good for me. Because of the rush in the morning, I managed to have a hot breakfast, but I already found that pretty pleasant. I use the Zen rings once or twice a day. They enliven the hands and lead me back to myself for a few minutes. I feel that as very relaxing and soothing.

After a month I feel much better. My day feels less stressful. When I started taking the herbs for Xue deficiency, I was exhausted, got bad skin. But such first deteriorations I know from homeopathy. That did not worry me. After this "first cleaning" I feel stable now. I have a nice body and radiant skin. For Handakupressur I come only in phases, but if, then bleed Zen rings or massage my otherwise often cold hands and then I feel much more relaxed. I continue to take the conflict stories of my clients seriously, but mostly try to steer the conversation in a positive direction. The customers do not seem to mind that - on the contrary. I also manage much better to consider the problems of others with more distance. In general, I rethink my actions more than before, stay calm even with my son's anger attacks, observe and consider how I react most sensibly. I also consciously perceive myself and my diet. Sure, the dietary recommendations meant a change. Instead of muesli or fruit quark, there are now steamed apples with oatmeal and nuts, blotted with apple juice and cinnamon. That makes you full and actually gives you inner warmth for the day. I feel really better with it. Coffee with cardamom also tastes great and with two cups my coffee thirst is now deleted. It's almost uncanny how well it all worked out: I have become more energized and more relaxed overall, so I want to continue on this path.
