Have food delivered

Lisa Rentrop founded KommtEssen three years ago

Now nothing stands in the way of your desire to eat healthier! Because who orders at KommtEssen, has to ask questions like "What will I cook tomorrow?" or "Who takes care of shopping?" do not worry. Every Monday evening, bags of the ingredients for three to five meals and recipes are delivered to the front door. Attention is paid to seasonal, regional, environmental and climate-conscious ingredients, and at least a quarter of them are organic.

KommtEssen was recently the winner in a test with three other comparable suppliers (RTL EXTRA in November 2012), A nutritionist who assessed the offer praised the fresh, varied ingredients, the balanced recipes and the mix of fresh vegetables, sustainable fish and fresh meat.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde editor Christine Hohwieler has already tried "KommtEssen". Here she talks about how the delivery service changed her family life.

My kids do not like meatballs. "Projectiles", "flat pressed Kackwurst", "Würg", these are the comments that meatballs evoke from them. But this time everything is different. The meatball haters sit in front of their plates, they loop and squeak, they demand replenishment and announce that I could have come much earlier to the idea of preparing the meatballs of lamb. Where lamb shank is her favorite food.

Stupid mother, me. And the idea for the meatball variant does not even come from me. She was in a paper bag that had been delivered to me two days before. A colleague from the cooking department had asked me if I did not even want to try this: the service of the company KommtEssen, which brings their customers every Monday a weekly schedule with five simple recipes for four people including ingredients. Main target group: stressed working parents.

I feel an energy boost

So I. Although I did not trust the whole thing much. Sure, it sounded pretty handy - do not go shopping for a week. For a week, do not worry about which of my ten standard children's dishes I'm bringing to the table today. On the other hand, I sensed stress: cooking five times in a row. Five times mumbling about the "weird green" in the sauce (Bonnie) or vegetables that tastes raw "a thousand times better" (Finn).

My children are - despite their unusual passion for lamb - typical representatives of their genus. Noodles are a safe bank, sausages, pizza, jacket potatoes with quark. The fact that with the delivery of a large paper bag a new attitude to life has entered our everyday life was the last thing I expected.

And that's why I'm amazed at myself as I stand in the kitchen on Monday evening, elated and grabbing for the knife. Instead of the after-hour fainting that overtakes me, as soon as I close the apartment door after a working day plus shopping sprint, I feel an energy boost. "Fleet tomato fish pan with broccoli" is on the program. Sounds delicious. And the fish looks wonderfully fresh. The vegetables too.

A feeling of closing time and peace

Nothing else I would cook, but let's see. The children also want to look, they are standing next to the stove and want to know what's in the bag. Five minutes later, Bonnie slices the leek, Finn chops the onions. As I'm cutting the fish into cubes, my friend Julia calls her, she has nothing to do tonight, "come to us," I say cheerfully, "there is something really good".

After half an hour Julia is there and the pan is ready. Four of us are sitting at the table, we are eating and laughing, and suddenly there is a feeling in me that has banished me to the world of Bullerbü-romance and parenting-wisdom smart-ass: the blessing of having a meal together. A feeling of closing time and peace. Mini pizzas from the freezer do not trigger that.

We cook and munch our way through the weekly schedule. The meatballs: the blast. The colorful pork tenderloin pan with chorizo: "That's okay." The chicken with colorful oven vegetables: "Oberlecker." I think everything is great. And I'm in high spirits for five evenings in a row. Because when my workday is over, I have something nice to do: cooking. I forgot how much fun it is.

Again the desire to cook

The recipes from the KommtEssen bag turn out to be the perfect way to get back to work: in half an hour everything is ready, no exotic ingredients. Garlic, onions, broth, peppers, pepper, salt - it is not much more, which provides for spice. Also the vegetables do not exceed the child tolerance in our test week: yellow and red peppers, zucchini, tomatoes.

That many ingredients have organic quality is nice, but I think it's more important that I feel like scrolling through my cookbooks again. That I do not have to rush through any supermarket. That my children help and that we sit together at the table for more than ten minutes. Everything is included in the paper bag: a good portion of family life.
