Happy tears after 42 years: mother and son finally united

Tears of joy and a hug that could last forever: Nelly Reyes and her son Travis Tolliver are in their arms after being separated for life. Travis had been separated as a baby from his mother. Only as an adult did he manage to find her again.

A mothers nightmare: Unknown kidnap newly born baby

It all started quite harmless: In November 1973, Reyes gave birth to her son in Chile without complications. But shortly after giving birth, she informed a nurse that her baby had been born with a heart defect and would probably not survive. "Hours later, they told me he was dead," Reyes told CNN news channel. She was not allowed to say goodbye to the corpse and was not issued a death certificate.

A lie with which a kidnapping was hushed up: Your baby was taken to the USA. There, her son was adopted by a couple who had no idea how much suffering they had contributed. Meanwhile, Nelly Reyes did not believe in the story of the heart defect. Desperately she tried to find her child - in vain.



Travis Tolliver: A man in search of the truth

The boy happily grew up in the US under the name Travis Tolliver. He knew that he had been adopted - officially it was said that his parents "gave up" him. Like many adopted children, Travis, as an adult, had a strong desire to meet his biological parents. Initial research, which he began in mid-20, were unsuccessful. But Travis did not want to give up.

"It feels wonderful in my heart"

Last year, his search got the decisive impetus through numerous reports of children abducted in Chile and given for adoption. With the help of a DNA test, he finally found his birth mother. For Tolliver confusing and reassuring at the same time: "I was not left by my parents, as I have been thinking all these years, and that feels wonderful in my heart, but I have to deal with that too, that's all very unreal for me me, "says Tolliver about the emotional chaos that rages in him.

Finally, after more than 40 years, Nelly Reyes and Travis Tolliver met again. A moment that draws a line under a great injustice done to them. Years of grief, anxiety and insecurity are finally over for Nelly - and Travis too is relieved of the doubts and many nagging questions that have plagued him all his life.
