Haiku Stairs: Only the bravest dare on Hawaii's Heavenly Stairway

So close to heaven ... where does that work best? In Nepal on Mount Everest or Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, for example. Hawaii even has a "Stairway to Heaven", but that's not for everyone.

The ascent takes up to five hours - anything but a relaxed walk. If you want to climb the 3,920 steps, you need not only a good condition, but also a good deal of courage. Actually, the rise has been prohibited for years, because of a storm. Since the stairs have always been considered impassable and slippery after rainfall, they have been classified as dangerous by the government since 2015.

High out can be expensive

At that time, the sky staircase was badly damaged by a storm, the work to repair the damage is slow or not at all progress. Therefore, the Hawaiian government has decided to close the Haiku Stairs for visitors. Clearly reason enough for some brave people to dare the ascent. The warning signs and the protests of the residents are studiously ignored.

They are not thrilled that daily tourists march through their front gardens to take a shortcut to the beginning of the stairs. Nevertheless, it is still 600 meters, it goes up steeply. A not only strenuous pleasure, but also an expensive one when caught by the security service: 600 dollar penalty!
