Goals: Finally do what you want!

Walter Zimmermann, author and trainer

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: "Do what you want!" is a pretty brisk call. Do most people know what they want?

Walter Zimmermann: If we listen in on ourselves, we already know that. We have values and a certain way of life. Mostly subconsciously, that's what you actually want to do. For example, I should not eat the pork knuckle but the salad. I should not sit in front of the TV, but do sports ...

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: Why do not we often do what we want? Do we ignore our needs?

Walter Zimmermann: We displace them. Most of them have developed a very good strategy over the years. For example: "I can not do sports, because I have to work so long in the evening, then it's already dark." But after all, there are also some gyms that turn on the lights! We are ready to push things forward. Instead of asking what we could do better, we often look for alibis or comfortable excuses and walk in mental trails.

On the next page: Is that really that easy?

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: What are the right questions?

Walter Zimmermann: The uncomfortable or the ones where you hold the mirror. But proper thinking alone is only the basis, good is only through action. When I think that my condition should get better, nothing changes. I think more about putting on the sports shoes.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: Is that really that easy?

Walter Zimmermann: No, that's just not easy. It is a real challenge, but it is possible. If you're willing to pay the price, you'll get it.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: Of course, the price can be quite high. For example, should one really quit his job because one has always dreamed of a long journey?

Walter Zimmermann: I can not answer the question. I can only say: what is important to you? It depends on your values. It is unfortunate that most do not listen to what is really important to them, but much more to their environment. They quarrel: "I would prefer, but I can not ..." And that draws the mood down madly.

On the next page: Making decisions conscious

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: But how do I find out what's important to me?

Walter Zimmermann: I have to collect the pros and cons of a decision and then evaluate from the gut what is more important for you. Then I bring the subconscious interests to the surface and make it a conscious decision. It's terrible for someone to say, "I go to work every day, but I do not really want that!" Instead, one should ask oneself why he actually does that. Maybe the price of a new probationary period at another company is too high for him at the moment. Who decides on such a basis consciously for his job, who can not complain about it and is out of the jammer number.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: But there are things that can not be changed with the best of intentions, as much as we would like. For example, if a marriage fails because the partner falls in love with another.

Walter Zimmermann: That's right, in that moment you can not do anything anymore. Therefore, we should always check our behavior for what we actually trigger with it. A lady at a seminar told me recently that it makes her so white that her husband never throws away the empty roll of toilet paper. Everytime give the noise. I wonder then: is it worth arguing about? I can imagine, for example, that two years later that lady sitting alone howling and crying: "The empty toilet paper roles I do not care if I only had him back."

On the next page: To offer luck a runway

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: Do not you really believe in luck and bad luck?

Walter Zimmermann: Soberly, it's all about probabilities. For example, if somebody got to know a new employer in a pub, it's a coincidence that they were at the same counter. But to make such a get-to-know a professional contact, I have to offer the luck a runway. I can design wherever communication takes place. Every second I can decide anew in what pitch, with what cordiality and with what words I approach someone, for example. And if I'm not that good by myself, I can learn it.

ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com: "Do what you want, finally" - sounds like a call to selfishness. Do you mean that?

Walter Zimmermann: Yes, I mean that. Be an egoist - but listen to your values.Self-centered, everyone is natural anyway, that's not bad. For example, if you have high family values, being an egoist is no problem at all. Because then you hang out of selfishness for your family. It only becomes critical when the values are doubtful. The intelligent egoist thinks of the other first. Because I'm smart, I say: Give something - it's coming back!
