From Teddy Thomas, who would rather be Tilly

Father mother Child. Most children's books provide a traditional role model. Homosexuality is rare, transsexuality is certainly not available. Teacher Jessica Walton from Australia wants to change that. Her children's book "Introducing Teddy" tells the story of Bear Thomas, who prefers to be a bear named Tilly. She is currently collecting donations on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter to realize her heart project.

"I believe in a world in which it is neither uncommon nor controversial to write a children's book that is about gender identity."says Jessica. "I want my child to grow up with books that include gay dads and lesbian mothers, people with disabilities, people of different backgrounds and beliefs, transsexuals, girls who like science and dinosaurs and sports, guys who like to dance and dolls play."

Jessica Walton lives with her wife in Melbourne. After the birth of their son, they looked for books that reflected their life situation. Some actually found them, but what is missing today is a children's book dealing with transsexuality. A loving, positive story with a transsexual protagonist. So she came on "Introducing Teddy".

The book is also a thank you to her father, who after many years confessed to her having always felt like a woman. And who cares as grandma Tina lovingly about her grandson. "The story is also a promise to my son that I will always love him and he can tell me everything."

Four weeks before the end of the donation campaign, the transgender teddy has won many fans. The original goal of 10,500 Australian dollars has already been reached. You can still donate and pre-order the book at Kickstarter.

The story is illustrated by the illustrator Dougal MacPherson, who became famous with his "15 Minute Drawings". The book will be published in December.
