Every year again: the Christmas story
It happened, however, at the time that a command was issued by the Emperor Augustus that all the world would be esteemed. And this estimate was the very first, and happened at the time that Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone went that he could be appreciated, everyone in his city.
Then also Joseph from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, went into the Jewish land to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and families of David, that he might be esteemed with Mary, his trusted wife; she was pregnant.
And when they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her first son, and wrapped him in diapers, and laid him in a manger; otherwise they had no room in the hostel. And there were shepherds in the same area in the field at the hurdles, who kept their flock at night.
And the angel of the Lord came to them, and the brightness of the Lord shone upon them; and they were very afraid. And the angel said to them, Fear not! Behold, I proclaim to you great joy that will befall all the people; for today the Savior is born to you, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And you have to sign: you will find the child wrapped in diapers and lying in a crib. And immediately there was with the angel the multitude of the heavenly hosts, who praised God and said: Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth among the people of his pleasure. And when the angels of them went to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let us now go to Bethlehem and see the story that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.
And they hurriedly found each other, Mary and Joseph, with the child lying in the manger. But when they saw it, they spread the word that was spoken to them of this child. And everyone who came was wondering what the shepherds had told them.
But Mary kept all these words and moved them in her heart. And the shepherds turned back, praising and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, as was said to them.
