In Christian Orthodox Greece, Easter is also the highest church holiday - and a happy celebration, celebrated with colorful processions, festive church services, fireworks and exquisite food. From far away, the Greeks travel to their homeland on Easter to celebrate "Pasha" with their families - that's the name of Easter in Greece.

In Holy Week in Greece strict fasting is common: meat, fish, dairy products and fat are taboo. But then it will be feasted on Easter - especially on Easter Sunday. Traditionally, there is Easter lamb, often grilled outdoors over the open fire, served with various appetizers, the so-called mezedes.

By the way: In Greece, Easter is usually celebrated a few weeks after us. The reason: The Orthodox Church is based on the Julian calendar - and this deviates from the Gregorian calendar. So if you want, you can even celebrate Easter twice a year: first with us in Germany and then in Greece.
