Deutsche Telekom separates from the phone book

"How was the number of Bianca again?" or "Where did Petra live right away?" ? For decades we answered such questions with a look into the telephone book.

And anyone looking for a plumber, lawyer or gynecologist found an answer in the Yellow Pages. These books are from the telecom? but not for much longer! Because: The magenta giant from Bonn wants to get rid of his phone books!

But anyone who thinks that the telephone books printed on paper in a 100 million edition (!) Will (finally) disappear from our hallways is wrong. Because it should continue to exist - even if in the reality of life, the vast majority of people have now switched to the online search.

As the "Nürnberger Nachrichten" have reported and the telecom has now confirmed, the Magenta giant from Bonn wants to sell its entire directory division until 2017 to regional publishers.

Regional publishers are already printing their telephone book for Telekom

The small publishers are in the process for years with the Telekom in the clinch: So far, the Telekom sells the phone data to the regional contracts, which in turn get ads and take care of the pressure. For years, the small publishers had accused the Bonn giant to demand usury prizes.

Now Telekom wants to hand over the entire division "De Te Medien" and has the regional publishers, with whom they work together so far, granted a right of first refusal. "Unlike the publishers involved, directories such as 'The Phone Book', 'The Local' and 'Yellow Pages' are not among the areas we want to focus on, the Nuremberg News cites a speaker.

Incidentally, even if the trend is to search online, there is still a surprisingly high number of people who use the printed phone book. Especially in the age group 55+ the book enjoys great popularity: According to a survey by YouGov from last summer, every third person uses the printed book.

So you can slowly abolish the phone book completely? When it comes to the respondents, not: Only 23 percent believe that they do not need them anymore? but 50 percent of the respondents are in favor of the phonebook continuing to exist, but in smaller numbers.
