Every human being has a point where he is lonely. Lisa Brenner (Fanny Risberg) knew him. A peculiar investigative trio: The boss Ludwig Schaller (Alexander Held) is considered crazy, the young commissioner Angelika Flierl (Bernadette Heerwagen) would much rather be a singer, and her colleague Harald Neuhauser (Marcus Mittermeier) hunts as much love affairs as criminals. First, the three have nothing to say. Then a routine visit takes Harald and Angelika to a small place called Englbach. There lives Lancelotti, who is considered by the local police as Querulantin. Criminal officials Anneliese Deckert (Lucie Heinze) and Daniel Winter (Andreas Helgi Schmid) present a gruesome picture at the crime scene. The culprit has stabbed several times with a kitchen knife on the school inspector, the choked on her own blood. Anneliese and Daniel once again ask Professor T. (Matthias Matschke) for help, much to the reluctance of Chief Inspector Rabe.

The maid Yasemin Akhtar crashes in the stairwell of a luxury hotel to death. The politician Joseph Sattler (Peter Sattmann) had recently had sex with the young woman. Sattler's involvement in the case is astonishingly publicized and harms not only his personal reputation, but also his current political project. In Lena Odenthal's (Ulrike Folkerts) eyes, it all fits together a bit too well. Similar to Sattler's lawyer, his wife Valerie (Suzanne von Borsody), she considers a plot against the political official possible.

The book was bought by Thomas Gassel over the Internet, but this name does not lead Münster to the culprit, but to another victim, a literature student. From their former classmate Münster learns that the sought after Thomas Gassel is the character of a crime novel. Is Munster hunting a phantom?
