Castle Rheinfels in St. Goar: Rheines pleasure

We are unusually quiet at dinner, my husband and I. Silent connoisseurs of a five-course meal in the gourmet restaurant "Silcher Stuben", which recently opened at Schloss Rheinfels. With a double greeting from the kitchen, our five-course meal is upgraded to a seven-course meal. My husband eats the variant "Classic", I the variant "à la région". The wines come from the area. After Gang Four, we are slowly starting to walk away with the giddy adjectives of what lies on our plates and calls itself "Lobster Cauliflower Turrets" or "Truffled Chestnut Cockerel".

But the real reason for our silence lies deeper. Reverently, we look out over the Rhine, which meanders among us, surrounded by hills that house castles with funny names like "Katz" and "Maus". We can not tear our eyes away from this romantic landscape. When a thunderstorm sets in later in the evening, we are probably the only ones who are happy about it - because the lightning flashes make the Rhine Valley so mystically mysterious. Since our visit to Rheinfels Castle, it is clear to us why the guides of the Americans and Japanese say that you can not miss this region on a 72-hour European tour.

Schloss Rheinfels has received its greatest wellness treasure free of charge from nature, but the Romantik-Hotel (4-star-superior) knows how to perfectly stage it. Breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the Rhine. A lovingly designed as a washhouse outdoor sauna, in which it can be sweat with a view of the Rhine Valley. A terrace restaurant aligned to the Rhine, where an international audience enjoys hearty specialties. A junior suite with large balcony and Rhine view.

I experience the only free moments with my wellness treatment. During the 60-minute aroma oil massage and the subsequent beauty break I miss the romantic colleagues but not at all. Through my well-massaged head, thoughts like: How could this have looked like centuries ago, when the castle was still a real castle and behind torture chamber was not a hiding on old-fashioned gym? I would like to start a journey back in time, but later I am glad, instead of eating Ritterschmaus with my fingers to be allowed to dine royally with silver cutlery. I can easily ignore the very solid ambience in the Rheinfels restaurants. My eyes are always out there anyway.
