Care for mature skin

When the skin is dry

Any skin will become drier over time, and in winter it tends more to do so than in summer. Dry skin does not produce enough fat, and it also lacks the so-called natural moisturizing factors (such as urea, lactic acid and amino acids). The result: the natural skin barrier is disturbed, The skin is rough, scaly and tense. Therefore, everything has to be avoided during cleaning, which causes the skin to dry out even further. This means: instead of foaming washing gels or bubble baths use moisturizing shower creams or oils, for the face a cleansing milk, which is removed with lukewarm water or a cotton wool soaked in tonic.

Instead, apply once a week a rich cream mask. A day cream with natural moisturizing agents prevents drying zones. Ceramides, shea butter, grapeseed oil or evening primrose oil and dexpanthenol strengthen the natural barrier of the skin and also ensure a balanced water balance. For the night, the cream can be richer than during the day: Also, additional anti-aging ingredients such as regenerating herbal extracts or vitamins are then particularly well received.

But do not exaggerate even with very dry skin. Because they are otherwise like a thick, impenetrable layer on top of the skin. For daily cleaning, do not shower too long or too hot and use moisturizing shower creams. Afterwards cream with a rich body lotion. For the particularly dry areas on the body, for example on the shins or on the back, there is intensive care, which protects the whole day from dehydration.

When the skin shines

In combination skin, the so-called T-zone shines in the face - forehead, nose, chin - greasy, while the cheeks tend to dryness. "Actually, the two different zones would need completely different care," says Hamburg dermatologist Dr. med. Birgit Kunze. That does not have to be complicated: "First a slightly richer cream for dry skin only on the sides, Then apply a light moisturizer to the whole face. "A good alternative for the dry areas is also to enrich the moisturizer in the palm with a drop of facial oil and then apply it there. Take care of the dry skin with daily cleansing and use mild cleansing products, a gentle exfoliation once a week. For the T-zone use an alcoholic facial tonic - but only there. In between, special powder leaves are good that absorb excess sebum.

Care for mature skin with wrinkles and pigmentation

How young we look, about one-third of our genes determine the rest our lifestyle and the appropriate care. Who does not want to look older than he is, can do a lot for it: Since under UV radiation in the body free radicals are created, which attack the cells of the skin, you should Do not take extended sunbaths and use creams with UV protection. Just as important: No smoking - nothing attacks the skin more than the pollutants of a cigarette. A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, supports the body's own protective mechanisms against free radicals, as does green tea (contains many radical scavengers) and now and then a glass of red wine. There are also special dietary supplements that contain many radical scavengers. Of course you should not expect any miracles from anti-aging creams, but small wrinkles can be compensated for that, and pigment spots can calm down a bit. Anyone who wants to pad up lines can do so with strong moisture binders - brand new is, for example, small chopped hyaluronic acid. In the long term, the connective tissue can be supplemented with active ingredients such as Peptides, pro-xylans or vitamin A (retinol). Special anti-aging masks also have a stronger concentration of active ingredients than creams and provide a smoothing short and long-term effect. Daily cleaning should be as mild as possible. Good are massages (both on the body as well as facial massages with creams): The skin is well supplied with blood and better supplied with oxygen, even small vessels are new. Concentrates with natural substances such as liquorice root extract or vitamin C derivatives help against age spots. It takes about eight weeks until a slight brightening becomes visible.

If everything is in order

She is the ideal: The normal skin with fine pores, which is firm and slightly rosy, neither greasy nor tense. Only care goal: Everything should remain as it is! This is best done by gently cleaning the skin: Do not shower more often than once a day, If you do not wear make-up then you do not need any additional cleansing products for the face.Because every detergent-active substance not only cleans, it also bothers a bit the protective fatty film of the skin. Of course, make-up has to be done at bedtime - with a mild cleansing milk or washing cream. The choice of cream is simply based on the outside temperature: light moisturizers in summer, richer care in winter, preferably always with UV protection. Extra tip: Regular sauna sessions, once or twice a week, stimulate skin regeneration and skin circulation. Then cream well, a soothing moisturizing mask does especially well after the sauna.

When pimples sprout

Who left puberty a long time behind and still struggling with blemished skin (and not just the occasional pimple) should do cause research: "Stress is a common trigger, but hormone fluctuations can also play a role," says Dr. Birgit Kunze, Dermatologist from Hamburg and founder of the Acne Forum (Www.akne-forum.de). Heavy, permanent acne usually does not go away with over-the-counter remedies and should definitely be treated by doctors - if necessary with antibiotics, antiandrogens or vitamin A acid (isotretinoin). Easier forms of blemished skin are best treated with creams containing fruit acid, vitamin A or salicylic acid: "But you have to make sure that does not dry out the skin too much," says Dr. Birgit Kunze.

Unlike puberty, oily skin is not necessarily the cause of pimples in adults - Many sufferers of the Acne Tarda, so the late acne, even tend to dry skin and make the acne even worse by the treatment with aggressive products. Therefore, please do not use pimple products from the youth department or soap for daily cleaning and creamsbut use mild syndets and specially designated remedies for blemished skin in adults. A facial steam bath with salt, chamomile or melissa gently opens the pores and helps against blackheads. Important: take care of care and cosmetics, not to use products containing comedogenic substances (including blackheads), such as olive oil, cocoa butter or lanolin. Cosmetic products that do not contain such substances are often "non-comedogenic". Dr. Advocates advising Kunze to take zinc tablets. And the single, but annoying pimple? Disappear when special dehydrating products, Zinc paste or simply pure alcohol from the pharmacy should be carefully dabbed on it.

When the skin is sensitive

The sensitive skin reacts to small irritations: It reddens quickly, itches and flakes. One should therefore avoid anything that could irritate them even more: especially fragrances, the number one skin irritant. For very sensitive skin you should also abstain from dyes, preservatives or even emulsifiers - with less ingredients the cream or the cleaning gets by, the better. For sensitive skin care with thermal water has proven itself. For showering, do not use gels, but use shower oils or shower cream, as too many foamers (surfactants) make the skin more sensitive. On the other hand, one should refrain from using anti-aging ingredients such as fruit acids, vitamin A or vitamin C: they irritate sensitive skin too much. And do not constantly change the care, but rather stay with what you have tolerated well.
