Brilliant! These outfits are made from our subway fabrics

One has to come up with the idea: Menja Stevenson, an artist from Stuttgart, has created costumes for a project made of upholstery from regional buses. But do not panic! The costumes with the rather ugly upholstery patterns should not be suitable for daily use and in series there will not be the extraordinary pieces either. Nevertheless, the project is super fun to look at, but click through the track yourself!

Fused with the sofa

The photo series shows Menja Stevenson herself sitting in different costumes in the appropriate regional buses. We really had to look twice to see that these are really outfits that show the exact same pattern of upholstery. Whether blue, yellow, wild patterned or with 80s lettering: like a chameleon artist Stevenson fits the two-piece suit including bag and accessories perfectly to the set. It can hardly be outbid ugliness. All of this Stevenson has staged for an art project, to show that you can make something special out of something everyday that attracts attention. Of course, she used the right seat fabric for the buses and not one that was already in use and already sat on the passengers.

Tone-in-tone with the bus cushions

The fabric reminiscent of carpet can not be produced in series (would be amusing to look at for bus drivers or controllers), since he was not breathable and too heavy. Stevenson also does not care about comfort and practicality. She wants to use the project to encourage her to think that something new and innovative can be made out of things that are taken for granted.

More information about the artist and the project can be found in this video and of course on her Facebook page.
