Abortion is still one of the most sensitive and controversial topics in our society. Even though women in most democratic countries are legally allowed to self-rule for abortion (Ireland, for example), they are often made even more difficult by the otherwise hard-line decision of different 'thinkers'.

Doubly brave: Esther aborts AND documents it

The photographer Esther Mauersberger, who has made a name for herself with birth photos, made two serious and very courageous decisions in September: She decided to have an abortion and to share this intimate and intense episode of her life with the public.

In her posts, she discusses the entire process: from the moment she decides to break up, the struggle and the turmoil during the counseling sessions, and finally, the relief and satisfaction after the abortion she has performed in her own home.

Here are some impressions from her Instagram account:

I deny this process to nature

And the trembling, the driving, that you feel, which I may feel, because I stand so clearly at a point of departure.

I decide that I will not make room. I am not afraid of a wrong decision.

There are also tears of excessive demands! I run from appointment to appointment, the blame, you have to listen eyebrow. Sometimes hidden, sometimes quite clearly. But I have to go into this system. I have to ask doctors and counseling, because only they keep my way out. It seems to society an unthinkable scenario that a woman can make this decision a) b) that she can be fine with it as well.

Suddenly the question: is this a child?

3 tablets in the hand and away with it. Suddenly the certainty that I can do it. I feel lofty. It returns something of arrogance. And I think that's what you see in this snapshot, my looseness. I'm tired, I'm tired. But I feel so easy. And that was nowhere. That's why I say it - I smiled. I felt strong. And immensely relieved. I've made a decision and was constantly challenged. One might think, since Freud's hysteria, something has happened since the 70s.
