Blütenrausch

A primrose alone does not make spring. And four primroses in a pot, draped around a narcissus, also do not give a very original planter, in which the heart enjoys great. Gardener Friederike von Ehren shows in her Hamburg garden center that it is also possible to plant planters and boxes much more imaginatively: "Now you can really make the most of everything and put together the most beautiful arrangements".

Always with you: The horned violet. The little viola cornuta are the absolute trend this year and they have pushed their big relatives, the pansies, smoothly out of the tubs. "Horned violets bloom incredibly long, from May to September, and in beautiful colors - orange, yellow and pink - and they can be perfectly combined with their small two-colored flowers," says Friederike von Ehren. For example:

Colorful: The whole colorful splendor united in one pot: with a Scheinquitte (Chaenomelis) in the middle, daffodils, filled Ranunkeln, horn violets, Heuchera (purple bell) and goose cress. Basically, you should pay attention to a certain structural structure when planting pots and boxes: Good is always something high for the center to choose and something down the edge for the edge (for example, evergreen ivy or Muehlenbeckia).

Variation in blue: In the copper bucket light blue primroses were combined with anemones, horned violets, campanula and hyacinths. In the middle is a small ornamental pasture, in addition to a filled blooming white daffodils, Christmas rose and ivy.

Classic triad: Pink combined with white and blue, always looks beautiful.

All in whiteWith yellow-white horned violets, filled primroses, daisies, tulips, bellis and evergreen viburnum (Viburnum tinus), this pot is pure elegance. As tendril Muehlenbeckia was used. The matching color bucket emphasizes the effect.

Summer: Pink, pink, purple and white are light and fresh as a color combination. Primroses, Bellis (Taudendschön) and Muehlenbeckia as a tendril are flourishing.

Everything yellow: A bucket planted with daffodils, primroses, tulips, campanula and Christmas roses.

Planting tips for the spring

  • Plants that with bale must be purchased now in April - this applies to all hedge plants, smaller house trees or solitary shrubs. Later these plants are in full growth and are green. A planting should then take place again from September (in conifers) and mid-October after the leaf fall (in deciduous trees).
  • Water regularly: Especially the evergreen plants such as cherry laurel, bamboo, thuja and taxus must always be intensively watered. This is especially true for the freshly planted plants that live only from the small globe, the bale. Since the rainwater is not enough. So: Pour plenty in the first three years and also in the cold season.
  • Most important is the pouring edge: A small wall, which is created around the plant in the size of the bale, ensures that the water is held on the bale.
  • In contrast, you can container plants planting throughout the summer. They are already pulled in a pot and you only have to remove the pot before. For example, flowering roses but also rhododendrons, fruit trees and perennials can be used conveniently.
  • Location: Pay attention to whether you want to plant sunny or rather shady locations and choose suitable plants accordingly.
  • Earth: Good plants also need good food, so good earth. And no rubble, or dust-dry peat that crumbles out of the bag. High-quality soil is enriched with clay minerals so that it can accumulate water - otherwise you have to water every two hours in summer. In addition, the soil is already well pre-fertilized and loosened (e.g., by Kompo).
  • Fertilize regularly: All flowering plants will bloom the more beautiful and fuller the more food is available to them. If you do not feel like fertilizing weekly, you can also use a long-term fertilizer.
  • Frost protection: Pansies, horned violets and daffodils can endure night frosts, but often driven by plants from the greenhouse. So if you want to be sure of freezing frost, wait with delicate plants to the icy saints and the "cold Sophie" in mid-May. If you do not want to wait that long, you can cover the plants with a light cloth and pull them closer to the wall.
