Benedict Cumberbatch: So touching he thanks his wife

Benedict Cumberbatch (42, "Doctor Strange") won Sunday's British Television Award for Best Actor. A great honor for the character actor. After all, Cumberbatch has been nominated several times for the coveted award in the past, but so far has never been able to take the prize home.

With his portrayal of the drug-dependent playboy Patrick Melrose in the eponymous series, it has finally worked out for the 42-year-old. In his subsequent speech, the visibly excited Cumberbatch thanked not only screenwriter David Nicholls (52, "One Day") and producer Rachael Horovitz (58, "Moneyball"), but also his wife Sophie Hunter (41).

"You were my rock," he called to Turner, who sat in the audience. "I had to get pretty curious about this role, there were a few things I needed to do, and it was really nice to be able to come home and feel solid again," the actor explained. The theater and opera director Hunter and Cumberbatch have been married since February 2015 and have two sons, Christopher (3) and Hal (2).
