Beauty-Knigge: What works, what does not work?

Do I tip the masseuse? And if so, how much? May I follow my lips in the restaurant? Are bright red lacquered nails in the office appropriate or inappropriate? We talked to five experts:

Sonja Peters is sales manager in the beauty department of Ludwig Beck in Munich.

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein is Chairman of the Board of the German Knigge Gesellschaft.

Michaela Lindenau is a state-approved beautician from Hamburg.

Alfred Wilfert is managing director of the La Biosthétique hairdressing salon Sevensenses in Hamburg.

Dagmar Rizzato has been a Spa Consultant for more than 20 years.

Can I refresh my make-up in the store with tester products ??

Sonja Peters: "Yes, that is of course possible with the existing testers."

Is it okay to get a make-up on the cosmetics counter of a department store for free? ?

Sonja Peters: "Yes, it's fine to do short make-ups, if it's only 5 to 20 minutes, they're free at all counters, you do not even need to make an appointment When it comes to booked, more elaborate appointments (for example bridal make-up), they cost money "

There are no tester products. Can I try a product anyway?

Sonja Peters: "Samples for the home are rare, but the customer can have each product applied to the counter to test it."

Do I give tips on hairdressing, cosmetics and massage? When Yes, how much?

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "Hairdressers and taxi drivers get ten percent, and of course I can tip the beautician or spa staff, but that's no compulsion."

Michaela Lindenau: "If you are satisfied with the treatment, every beautician is happy about a tip - between two and five euros."

I need rest in my treatment. How do I say this without appearing rude?

Michaela Lindenau: "Rest during the treatment goes without saying. An experienced beautician recognizes whether a customer wants to speak or needs rest."

Alfred Wilfert: "Be calm right! A phrase like 'I'm completely exhausted today' or 'I'd like to close my eyes for a moment' is the best way to help."

The smartphone, our daily companion: Do I have to switch it off silently during the application?

Michaela Lindenau: "Please always switch off the phone during the treatment to silent or if possible completely off.

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "A ringing smartphone should not interfere with the process, that would be rude, but when you wait it is fine."

Dagmar Rizzato: "Loud talking in the rest and relaxation area is a no-go. My recommendation: Enjoy the tranquility in a place that is all about your recovery."

I have an urgent appointment in between. May I cancel at short notice? If so, how soon and for what reasons?

Michaela Lindenau: "If possible, please refuse 24 hours before the appointment, as otherwise the unusual treatment can not be replaced and thus the beautician has to cope with a loss of earnings." Disease is of course always an exception. "

Dagmar Rizzato: "Spas have cancellation deadlines, usually between 12 and 24 hours, and they are often tolerant of illness or serious causes, especially hotel spas. In the case of short-term cancellations, appointments are generally very difficult or impossible to fill, so cancellation fees are also important and understandable. "

Is it okay to follow your lips at the table?

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "Does not work at all, do not tighten your lips, do not powder or use a toothpick, any retouching work should take place in the washroom."

Make-up edge, lipstick on the teeth - should I point this out to my colleague?

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "It depends on your relationship." If you have a narrower, you can draw attention to it.You can also try this trick: If you hit yourself in the nose, the other reflects this movement and is also on If the boss stops to talk and ridicule herself with the parsley between her teeth, I'll give her a hint.

Red lipstick or brightly colored nails - is that also possible in the office?

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "The strict business press code is very cautious: no colors - this applies to classic industries such as retail, banking or insurance, but in creative professions you can see the whole thing looser."

Got up too late and with wet hair in the office - can you do that?

Dr. Hans-Michael Klein: "No, that seems unprofessional."

Can I keep a slip on the massage or do I have to be completely naked?

Dagmar Rizzato: "The panties are great to wear, and disposable briefs are consistently offered in good spas - which is more pleasant because of the oils."

Is my child allowed in the sauna or in the spa area?

Dagmar Rizzato: "This is very different - in the sauna area you can usually from the age of 16 years, often even from the age of 14. Spas have different rules here. Best to inquire about the house rules on site."

Do I have to shave my legs before a massage?

Dagmar Rizzato: "It is much more aesthetic for you and the therapist, and much better for the massage, because the tissues and muscles can be massaged 'without any tensions'."

And what about showers?

Dagmar Rizzato: "It is generally recommended to use an application freshly showered, also not to have to wash the most valuable oils for the skin afterwards."

The small shampoo bottles in the hotel are also pretty! Can I take her?

Dagmar Rizzato: "Yes, the vials are included in the room price and are part of the basic equipment of your booking package."

I am not satisfied with the barber result. How do I formulate my doubts?

Alfred Wilfert: "Describe in the best possible way what you like and what you do not feel comfortable with. Remarks like: 'Do not you think that's not what I like?'

With unwashed hair to the barber - okay or not okay?

Alfred Wilfert: "Nowadays, it hardly happens that the hair reaches a critical degree of soiling, one to three days are completely ok, and finally the hairdresser also likes to take over this performance."
