Axel Prahl: Representative of the little man

Dear Axel Prahl,

My instinct has failed you for the first time. For a long time I was able to claim that I recognized right away whether a man came from East or West Germany. Unambiguous evidence that betrayed the Ossi man: handshake instead of welcome kisses, moderate Smalltalk technique (undesirable honest answers to "And, are you alright?" - questions), matey flirting behavior (separate bills even after the most romantic candle light -dinner). Last doubts dispelled questions about her mother's early naturist experiences and employment. Yes replies refer to an origin from the zone.

Now I've never really faced you and could only conclude from their roles that Klein Axel had worn a Pioneer scarf - and yet the matter was clear to me: Whether in "Half Stair", "Willenbrock" or "Moon Calf", whether as Horned sausage stall operator Uwe, as a failed car dealer Bernd Willenbrock or as overburdened father and driving instructor Piet Hatzky - this was not just a game, but a piece of their own lives. The impetuous and gruff do not look set on you, do not come from annoyance or annoyance with (small) bourgeois conventions. Their anti-heroes are as they are, undisguised, sometimes too brash, then again lovable shy, often a bit grumpy and awkward. They know what failure means - and that's exactly how my heart beats.

At some point I read in an interview how amused you are about the fact that many consider you an Ossi - and your "crime scene" colleague Jan Josef Liefers alias Karl-Friedrich Boerne, the Porsche driving pathologist, for a Westerner. Not correct. You were born in Ostholstein, Liefers comes from Dresden.

Axel Prahl was the one who kept fooling around

In the Christmas fairy tales I was the thick spruce.

The old stereotypes do not seem to work so well 20 years after the fall of the Wall. "I am the representative of the little man, the films show difficult milieus, you could play in the West as well," you once said. That's only half true, but it's nice of you that you do not want to make any difference. Fits with your down-to-earth charm, which is not an empty phrase for you. Which German actor is traveling to the set with a mobile home? "A piece of home," you say. In the shooting breaks you will meet them playing the guitar. It is quite possible that the whole crew will collapse after closing time. A beer among friends - even at home or at a game of your favorite club St. Pauli one of your favorite activities. With your second wife and the twins you moved from Berlin to Brandenburg. Honestly, Mr. Prahl: There is no denying a certain predilection for the East. There in Marienwerder, you recently told, just be Axel for everyone. Everything sounds very nice, right?

Axel Prahl must have convinced with talent

Maybe that's why I feel so close to you, because I recognize myself a bit in you. My strengths and weaknesses, my hesitation and hesitation, my flights of fancy, but also my whole mediocrity. After a broken teacher study and jobs as a beer driver, track builder or waiter advised you a friend from your Kiel WG: "You stupid so much around here, but after all actor." The acting school accepted you immediately. You must have convinced with talent, you could hardly score with beauty. Small, fat, the complexion pale from one or the other cigarette too much - you know about your appearance ("In the Christmas tales I was always the little fat spruce") and are always amazed when women find you attractive. Attractive, not beautiful. Maybe it took a few years and wrinkles - especially this line, which has stuck vertically to your cheek, just sweet! - to give character to your face. But there are of course still your eyes. Of those raves also Andreas Dresen, your favorite director. For "Willenbrock" he did not want to book you at first and then he has fallen back on his charm: "This glow in his blue eyes, this glow - either you have it or you do not have it. Take good care - that's what you want

Your Antje Liebsch
