Anthony Hopkins: He has never been seen so sad

Anthony Hopkins (81, "Hannibal") shared a very emotional moment with his Twitter followers on Sunday. In the video he visits one of the locations where he shot the movie "Shadowlands" in 1993. The nostalgia in his eyes is unmistakable.

"This is where we started with 'Shadowlands', and I was sitting right here 23 years ago - Ted Hardwicke was sitting here, he's dead and gone, I was sitting over there, Debra Winger came in over there, that was the first day of the Filming, "Hopkins recalls. Edward Hardwicke (1932-2011, "Sherlock Holmes") died at the age of 78.

Then Hopkins adds thoughtfully, "Luck back then, the pain now, that's the deal." These last words perfectly capture the melancholy Hopkins at the moment and are a quote from Debra Wingers (63, "Time of Tenderness") character Joy.

"Shadowland - A Gift of the Moment" is about the believing author C.S. Lewis (Hopkins), who falls in love with the American Joy Gresham (Winger), but his feelings can only acknowledge, after it is actually already too late. The result is the same insight that two decades later Hopkins became painfully aware that "the happiness of today is the pain of tomorrow".
