When was the last time you painted a picture, just like that? Maybe with your children? And did you forget the time and thought: man, that's really fun?
Then you are not alone. Even adults have discovered coloring books as a hobby, which is particularly suitable for stressed souls. Coloring is not as difficult as free drawing, you can focus on the colors and let your thoughts run.

At the moment nobody satisfies this yearning for a soothing pastime as well as Johanna Basford. For her coloring books, the Scottish artist designs lovingly designed, small-scale landscapes, animals or plants that can be filled with color. Her enchanted images are reminiscent of mandalas, geometric patterns that are not only popular in kindergartens and schools.

And that's important: her coloring book "Secret Garden" has been sold more than 1.4 million copies worldwide. In the US, it is number 1 in the best-selling books - followed by another coloring book, Basfords newest work "Enchanted Forest", of which 226,000 copies have already been sold.
The success surprised even the publisher. "It's crazy," says Eleanor Blatherwick of Laurence King Publishing on the Guardian. "We knew the books were beautiful, but we did not realize it would be such a phenomenal success."
Escape from the complex world with complex art
"I think it's just very relaxing to do something similar and plug yourself off," explains Johanna Basford herself her success. "So many people have told me they secretly paint in the evenings when the kids are in bed." Now be it socially accepted, a separate category.
"The art in my books is very complex," says Basford, stressing that her books are intended for adults. And especially for stressed mothers, they are true balm. We're going to buy colors.
