4000 episodes Good times, bad times

"What is it?" were the first words in the GZSZ premiere on May 11, 1992, spoken by Frank Thomas Mende aka Clemens Richter. "WHAT'S THAT?" The then 1.91 million viewers may have wondered in horror at the sight of the first Daily Soap on German television. Was it supposed to be a daredevil project, involuntarily dragging people from the street to the camera in order to lull up meaningless dialogues in a monotone voice? Or were these actually the first attempts of young actors who were in all likelihood simply cheap, talentless?

Model from Down Under

With "The Australians are guilty" you could excuse the first 230 episodes. Originally, a series from Down Under served as a model for the German screenplay. But since episode 231, the plot comes from German minds and continues to be spun successfully.

On 2 June, the meanwhile 4000th episode will be broadcast on RTL. An anniversary that is celebrated for a whole week. Respect! For an entertainment format that prevailed in spite of a wooden Andreas Elsholz (as Heiko Richter) and an apathetic Ulrike Frank (as Tina Ullrich) in the lead roles, received the 1999 Bambi Audience Award and today on 2.5 million pages of screenplay about love Suffering, fate, drama and tension can be a strong performance. You have to acknowledge that. No matter if you are a glowing fan, occasional zapper or GZSZ opponent!
