Perfect care for every hair

Kraus and unruly? That's how curls look great

Our natural care, the fat from the sebaceous glands, can not easily coat curly hair with a delicate protective film like smooth hair. It just sticks, so especially natural hair from the ears down is often dry and needs a lot of moisture. Care products for wavy hair therefore contain mainly moisturizing (hydrating) active ingredients, such as rhubarb acid. In addition, to give the curls more bounce, some shampoos and conditioners rely on ingredients such as aloe vera and wheat proteins, which contract when drying, thus supporting the wave structure. Due to their uneven surface, curls can not reflect the light so well and have a dull effect.

For styling, therefore, a shine lotion is great, which makes the hair shine while emphasizing the waves. Those who would rather tame their natural ruff, however, take smoothing care and styling products with the note "Anti-Frizz" on the pack: The high content of purging silicones and oils settles around the hair like a weighty wrapper and pulls it out in length. Special finish sprays with water-repellent care molecules (polymers) are designed to protect the locks from wrinkling immediately in the presence of moisture - this does not work with a real shower, or at least with a short drizzle.

Less hair, less strength? This helps with aging hair

At about 30, the hair starts to become about 0.5 percent thinner each year. "This is mainly due to the fact that the lipids in the hair lose weight - in cholesterol it is especially the cholesterol", explains Professor Dr. med. Jean Krutmann, Director of the Institute for Environmental Medical Research at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. At the beginning you do not notice the difference so much, but at about 40 the hair becomes noticeably finer and more fragile. To prevent this, special care lines want to fill in the gaps that have been created. B. fill with ceramides and proteins or envelop the individual hair with a polymer film, giving it more fullness. The effect lasts until the next wash, then the active ingredients dissolve and can be replaced by new ones. Over the years hair loss is more common - especially after the onset of menopause, when the body is increasingly producing the male hormone testosterone, on the degradation products of which many women are sensitive. In order to strengthen the hair root, many care lines use blood circulation-promoting caffeine: studies by the University of Jena confirm its effect, and new studies by the Berlin Charité show that it penetrates to the hair follicle after only two minutes exposure time. Another option is tinctures with the active ingredient Minoxidil: The agent was originally used for high blood pressure - later it was recognized that it sprouts hair faster. When applying, however, you have to be careful: "The flow of fluid can cause increased growth in the temples and cheeks," Dr. Gerhard Lutz, dermatologist of the "Hair & Nail" consultation in Bonn. In some ampoule treatments, the active ingredient Aminexil: It regenerates weakened connective tissue, thus preventing the hair roots are compressed, and provides better hold in the scalp. Many cosmetics manufacturers also want to prevent hair loss with dietary supplements: "However, these at most help with so-called diffuse hair loss, which can occur, for example, due to iron deficiency, crash diets or as a side effect of drugs," Dr. Lutz. Brand new: a plaster that is supposed to block overreaction to the male hormone with rosemary and hops extracts. And a scalp lotion that is designed to optimize the micro-circulation and oxygenation of the scalp with the ingredient adenosine and improve hair growth - studies have so far only been successful in men.

Colored, bleached or tinted? So the color radiates even longer

In order to transport the color pigments into the hair inside, the natural protective cover must be opened - therefore colored hair is frequently strained and requires intensive care. Moisturizers such as hops extracts or panthenol help to regenerate the cuticle layer; so the color does not fade so fast, and the light is reflected evenly radiant. In addition, to protect the color from fading sunlight and other harmful environmental influences, colored hair care products also contain antioxidants and UV protection, usually chemical filters as well as sunscreen products for the skin.Just like her, however, the protection lasts only a few hours - in the sun you have to spray again and again with special protective sprays. Nursing and styling products that also contain color pigments are also very useful: they are deposited on the hair from the outside and freshen up the color at least until the next wash. In the meantime, many cosmetics manufacturers distinguish between subtle shades of color, for example a warm and cool, light and dark brown shade. For blondes that does not work, here are gentle cleansing ingredients ideal, which liberate from dark residues - and best yourself are colorless, so that the light hair is not tarnished and dull. Also good are shampoos and conditioners with purple pigments: The complementary color makes the blonde color really shine and can even hide a slight yellowish tinge.

Fine, limp, without volume? This is how thin hair gets a lot of power

In Germany, most women complain about thin hair: After all, 56 percent want more abundance, according to a study of the hair care company Kao. If the hair is healthy, it can be fulfilled with special volume products. So with shampoos that gently liberate the hair from weight-bearing residues, conditioners and cures that have less oil, and styling products that put a fine polymer film around each hair, making it look luscious. It gets more difficult with fine, damaged hair: It needs particularly intensive care, but at the same time should not be weighted. In this case, one should do without so-called 2-in-1 products. They often contain high concentrations of care substances, which eventually cause the fine hair to hang limp. "It's better to use cures for damaged hair like a conditioner, so just let it work for a shorter time", Dr. Elisabeth Poppe, Head of Product Development Hair Care at Schwarzkopf & Henkel. Although the repair effect of the hair inside is not quite as strong, but the combability is improved and the hair is not additionally damaged during brushing. In addition, there are often only individual parts that need intensive care (eg the lengths or the back of the head), and the rest looks better without extra care. When styling, comb the hair with a skeleton brush against the direction of growth, blow dry and then let it cool on several round brushes for a few minutes. From time to time you can also try on the lugs and fix them with spray - this does stress the hair, but for a special occasion it's a great trick.

Splissig and brittle? That needs dry hair

While dry hair is supplied with too little fat by the root, damaged hair is so strongly damaged by external influences (eg UV light, salt water or perm) that the protective dandruff layer does not lie properly and sometimes even entire scales are torn out and moisture is lost to the outside. In both cases, break points and split ends occur more quickly - the hair needs intensive care, eg. B. after each wash a conditioner or cure. Ingredients such as moisturizing yoghurt extracts or rich almond oil regenerate the hair inside and, most importantly, improve combability: when wet, the hair is particularly sensitive. Rough brushing can overstretch them, causing them to rupture, while at the same time damaging the structure even more. Many care products contain positively charged care substances, which dock like small mini-magnets on the broken, negatively charged areas of the hair shaft and there kitten the surface. While the drugstore and the department store usually offer care products for both dry and stressed hair, hairdressing brands often make a distinction - so you can go into more detail on the individual problems: dry hair gets more moisture-binding lipids, damaged hair is precisely on the repaired damaged areas.

Strähnig and flat? All tips for oily hair

Frequent washing additionally stimulates the sebum production - this rumor comes from times when the shampoos were much more aggressive. Today they are so mild that they can be applied calmly on a daily basis, only when spreading it should be as gentle as possible: "If the scalp is massaged too vigorously, the sebum contained in the glands will be squeezed out Hands on the head to pass, "explains Manjana Dietrich, trainer at Schwarzkopf Professional. Once dispersed in wet hair, anti-fat shampoos remove excess sebum and dirt particles with, for example, gently cleansing essential oils or micro-sponges that are soaked in and then rinsed out. There is also a solution for women who have a greasy finish and dry tips: In addition to the washing substances, special shampoos contain positively charged care substances, which are supposed to dock only on the porous, negatively charged tips. And after washing? If the hair is difficult to brush, a light conditioner is added to the hair: "For long hair, it is usually sufficient to work the product only in the most stressed areas, ie the lengths and tips," advises Dr. Martin Sugár, Head of Product Development Hair Care and Styling at Beiersdorf. Once a week, a soothing and clarifying healing clay wrap, which is applied to the scalp before washing, will help for about ten minutes.
